CDI implosion to make way for new Dallas high-rises
Controlled Demolition Inc. of Phoenix, Maryland, served as the explosives subcontractor in helping bring down commercial buildings in Dallas’ Uptown district once occupied by Republic Insurance. The implosion, which took place Sept. 15, felled one 9-story and one 8-story reinforced concrete building that had stood tall since the 1950s.
Lindamood Demolition and Excavation of Irving, Texas, is the main contractor on the job. The demolition commenced in June and will include the removal of all existing structures on the site. The demolition phase is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Prescott Group, Dallas, which acquired the property in 2014 with plans to remodel the existing buildings, will instead convert the site into a mixed-use property that is slated to feature a 19-story tower to be used for office space, a 24-story hotel and residential tower, and a 20-story tower that will serve as a multifamily community.
Vertical construction is anticipated to commence in 2020.
